The Ensemble, under the direction of Rosemary
and Kristy Baker, was formed in 1995. Its purpose is to expose our dancers to
various performance and choreographic opportunities. Dance Gallery focuses on
promoting talent, and encourages the amalgamation of various art forms in its
productions. Dance Gallery utilizes local talent to bring contemporary dance
styles and bold, innovative choreography to the stage.
This year's ensemble consists of 30 dancers
between the ages of 5 and 18. These young dancers have a real devotion to dance
and dedicate a large portion of their lives to dance classes, competitions and
performances. In the past, our ensemble has had the opportunity of taking
master classes from such teachers/choreographers as Debbie Dee, Van "The Man" Porter
from Riverdance, Judy Ann Bassing, Edwin Holland, Jack Bloesser, Scott Benson,
Vincent Bigham (from Bring in Da Noise), Chris Erk and AJ Russo both from Tap Dogs, plus many others.
They have performed at various venues such as the Vizcaya Holiday Celebration, Miami Children's Museum,
The JDRF Walk to cure Diabetes at Metro Zoo, A Night for Molly at Florida International University,
That's Life Mardi Gras Ball, Victory for Youth, the Falls Parade, the XXXIII Superbowl Half Time Show,
Pine Villa condos, Big Brothers Big Sisters Luncheon, Zoo Lights at Miami Zoo and at the Aviation Convention
at the Micousoukee reservation. Several dancers are currently members of their High School Dance Team and are
former members for the Miami Heat Junior Jam and the Marlin's Minnos. Last year, one of our ensemble members
was chosen to compete in Battle of the Stars with ADA's National Dance Competition.
Recently, our "Out of Control" Tap Crew was a finalist in the "Tap Pups" Competition for Tap Dogs.
In the past, they have had the opportunity to perform aboard the Royal Caribbean ships,
Majesty of the Seas and Sovereign of the Seas. The dancers use their talents not only for performance reasons,
but they also give back to the community that supports them. They perform for the children and families at
the Ronald McDonald house; sponsor a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Camilus House and a Holiday Toy Drive
for the United Way. They will also compete at several local and regional competitions and in the summer they
will attend two national competitions.
Their Annual Xmas Extravaganza, featuring
excerpts from the Nutcracker, is always a huge success. They also compete at
various regional competitions. In the
past, they walked away with High Honors, Platinums, Golds and Overall Highpoints.
Dancers who display a strong
commitment and dedication to dance, and who progress consistently in their
dance training, attaining certain technical requirements, may be invited to
audition for our Ensemble. Please check the Website and Studio Bulletin Board
for audition dates.
